A release from the Representative for Children and Youth, March 26, 2013
The audit found scattered and ineffective documentation of planning for these vulnerable children and youth, as well as a clear lack of emphasis by MCFD on comprehensive and regular planning and intervention.
“Government has a responsibility, as the prudent parent of these children, to carefully plan for them in order to increase their opportunities in life,’’ said Representative Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond. “Many of these children desperately need interventions and services to address their needs and a plan for how they will receive those things.
“This planning is not an option or a luxury, although this audit shows it has been treated as both by a ministry focused on crisis-management. Planning is a staple of good child welfare practice. MCFD must make this a priority going forward...”
By the way, for his fine work, Stephen Brown, the Ministry of Children and Family Development Deputy Minister, enjoyed a 19% raise in 2012. His salary in the last fiscal year was $230,238, which was $36,087 more than in 2011. (Source: BC Public Accounts)

I have said it before and I will say it again, there are very, very few positions in government that should command more than $150,000 per year....the skill set of those in such positions is proven over and over to not be there. These people have defied the Peter Principle. I repeat my challenge to have any one of Norm's commenter's walk into that position with no prior training and do half as good a job from day 1. By day 31 I bet they would do 80% as good a job (kind of a take on the Paredo Principle). Never mind what Norm could do. These people surround themselves with other bureaucrats of similar skill sets so that amongst their peers they appear qualified. Note I am talking about polititcally appointed people and not necessarily those that have worked up through the ranks. "They" honestly believe the taxpayer will just keep paying without noticing.
ReplyDeleteAfter receiving the Federal budget...an austerity budget at that, the 5th since the "crash" (mortgage nightmare) of 2008-2009, how can the current government even think about pay increases?
ReplyDeleteDefinitley an "entitlement" issue involved here. If anything, these clowns deserve a $30,000.00 a year pay cut. Its time this "gong show" was placed under outside scrutiny...
"No one, in governance" in Victoria is worth more than $150,000.00 per year. What an utter crock of....
Get the current (BC Liberal) clowns out of office, and place the government's operations as far as salaries and wages if needs be, under an "austerity program" to fit the current fiscal mess.
