Canadian elites

North Van Grumps at The Blog Borg Collective brought this to my attention. As the creator J.J. McCullough says, this is not evidence of a conspiracy or of sinister intentions. However, it demonstrates:
"...for at least the last five decades or so Canada has been a remarkably elitist country, in which a very small group of inter-connected families, business associates, and political allies, have controlled most institutions of relevance..."

In his book Democracy Incorporated: Managed Democracy and the Specter of Inverted Totalitarianism, Sheldon S. Wolin,
“portrays a country where citizens are politically uninterested and submissive--and where elites are eager to keep them that way. At best the nation has become a ‘managed democracy’ where the public is shepherded, not sovereign. At worst it is a place where corporate power no longer answers to state controls…”

  3. Ah ...yes...Wolin's text, both older and his more recent works, provide the background reading, in order to see the overall corpratist thinking, in terms of the "subversion of democracy". The intent is obvious, control of the populace, their place in a much altered democratic reality, elitist control of economic and corporate entities and the use of advanced propaganda and supposed governance by a system of elected individuals, "controlled" by the party insiders. Lobbyists and nepotism create the party doctrine, while the grass roots of the party tow the elistist or corporate line.
Ultimately, the corporate elites, the banking establishment, and the inner circle of executive party members and their immediate support groups, are in charge of the course of governance and their manufactured policies.
Interestingly enough, this form of subversion of our democratic principles, is tolerated, and even encouraged. Any opposition to this subversion is confronted as anti democratic or even socialist.
The population is educated by the propaganda media machine, to believe that economic strategy and employment are the most important requirements within this form of governance, followed by safety and security from the world "outside" this political doctrine. Everything else, is secondary.
As a further comment, security by the state for those in charge of the state becomes a priority, since any confrontation of the elitist leadership cannot be condoned. Subversion is a transparent and hidden activity that must remain so, in order to continue, the manipulation of the populace.
Sounds like fascism in the extreme to me. ( see Britts 14 items that define fascism, an excellent primer from Norms archives)
How do you confront, and indeed, remove this "subversion activity" from our democratic principled system?
