Real news

"We are in an information war, and we are losing that war … Viewership of al-Jazeera is going up in the United States because it's real news. You may not agree with it, but you feel like you're getting real news around the clock instead of a million commercials and, you know, arguments between talking heads and the kind of stuff that we do on our news."

  1. On the subject of real news, the author of that article - Amy Goodman - is one of the hosts of an excellent news program called Democracy Now, which originates from the listener-supported station WBAI in New York city, and is syndicated by the Pacifica Radio Network. I know CJSF has carried it locally, but I am not sure if that is still the case. Although the program is naturally US-focused, it is well worth checking out at www.democracynow.org

  2. Good idea. I download the podcast each week, then scan it for items that interest me. Goodman is an award winning pro. Because she speaks from the a viewpoint favoring social justice, peace and democracy the Harper Government sees her as an enemy of ersatz capitalism. That is why they detained her at the border in 2010 when she came to Vancouver for a speech. She was given 24 hours to leave the country.

Apparently it is OK for an international war criminal to visit Surrey to collect a giant cash reward. Thanks Mayor Dianne Watts.
